A large group of at least 10 Microdevario kubotai creates a stunning display in smaller, softwater aquariums with lush plant life. These tiny, iridescent shoaling fish thrive in tanks that feature dense vegetation, shaded areas with bogwood, and floating plants to soften the lighting. Moderate water movement is essential for proper oxygenation, though the current should not be too strong. Due to their small size and slightly shy temperament, they are best suited for species-only setups or tanks with similarly small, peaceful fish. While not always ideal for community aquariums, keeping them in larger groups with ample cover and calm tankmates can boost their confidence. A mature tank with consistent small water changes is key to their health and well-being.

Feeding

Offer a varied diet of small frozen foods such as baby brine shrimp, cyclops, and daphnia, along with crushed flake and micropellets.

Breeding

When kept in heavily planted tanks with large groups, M. kubotai often spawn naturally, scattering their eggs among plants and decorations. Although adults may eat the eggs or larvae, some fry may survive if there is enough plant cover. To increase fry survival, set up a dedicated breeding tank with plenty of Java moss or spawning mops. Introduce a well-conditioned pair into the breeding tank, and once spawning is complete, remove the adults to prevent predation.
